Mehmet Selim Yalçın – Halil Coşkun / Şırnak, Aug 7 () - In Silopi district of southeastern Şırnak province, the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) has opened fire with rocket launchers and long barrelled weapons over security forces attempting to close the ditches.
After the counterattack of the police, two people were alleged to be killed and around 10 people including a police were wounded, while gendarmerie units hit the streets on armed vehicles. The earth digger was set on fire.
The causalities were hospitalized to Silopi State Hospital; security forces took extreme security measures around the hospital.
In Silopi’s Başak and Barbaros neighbourhoods, the youth branch of the PKK have entrenched to block the entries of security forces. On Aug 7 around 05.00 a.m. district police department headed to the region on armed vehicles and earth diggers in attempt to close the trenches. However a clash occurred after the counterattack of the police to PKK’s fire.
In Silopi, units of district gendarmerie were deployed to strategic point on their armed vehicles, while helicopters keeps patrolling.
An extraordinary tense climate keeps striking the district, as people locked themselves in their houses because of security tension. Reports also said that fire erupted in some of the houses in the neighbourhood where clashes continue.
