Hakan Kaya - Ozan Ural / İstanbul, July 3 () - Anti-terror branch of the Istanbul Police Department has launched an operation early this morning to a group who has gone on hunger strike in front of a park in Istanbul’s Küçükçekmece neighborhood.
The group has been on hunger strike to protest the killing of Hasan Ferit Gedik, held up as one of the Gezi victims, by an armed attack in September 2013.
One person has been detained in the operation supported by a large number of riot police officers and water cannon trucks (TOMA).
The protesters escaped into side streets after having noticed the police. Police officers ripped off banners of the group and seized the items on the strand of the protesters.
The security forces are still waiting in the park where the hunger strike protest has been held.
Gedik was shot to death by drug dealers fighting with leftist groups in the Gülsuyu neighborhood, during the nationwide Gezi protests in 2013.
