Aziz Önal / Bingöl, Nov 9 () - Villagers from the eastern Anatolian province of Bingöl sold meteorites worth some $200,000 last week, as meteorite collectors from Russia and Germany flocked to Sarıçiçek village. Previously unaware of the value of the meteorites, villagers started the trade after being informed by an academic from Istanbul University.
They claimed the meteorites were sold for $15 to $60 per gram. “God willing, everybody should find this stone. Poor people keep looking for it. They need it more than we do” a local villager said.
