Yaşar Anter / Bodrum, Oct 9 () – Off the coastal Ayvalık district in Balıkesir, an inflatable boat has sunk off the Greek island of Lesbos, while carrying Syrian migrants seeking to cross into Europe, illegally.
While some 34 migrants of Syrian, Iraqi and Afghan origin were captured in Aegean waters, the lifeless body of an 8-month-old baby was found.
According to the Greek news portal 'www.lesvosnews.gr', the migrant disaster was the most tragic among the journeys 16 inflatable boats enroute to Greek islands, on early Oct 9. In 16 different boats around 800 migrants have put to Aegean waters. Some of the groups managed to reach land, however some of them faced risk of death.
As another tour boat, 18-meter-long, with 200 migrants have run on the rocks off Didim resort town in Aydın, one mile off the Piganoussa reef, Greek rescue teams launched operations.
