Ankara, Oct 28 () - Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP and former consultant to President Tayyip Erdoğan, Aydın Ünal, vowed to bring certain media organizations to account, such as daily Sözcü, renowned daily critical of Erdoğan and his ruling AKP.
“We are not in an adequate environment, however we are watching Nov. 1, as after the elections certain media organizations will be accounted. At least, I will be closely following, as an MP, as I have given promise to do so” slammed Ünal, at a live interview aired on Kanal A.
“They have fear, in run up to Nov. 1 elections. AKP could come to power alone… These are all crimes; hate crime and crime of discrimination” said Ünal.
Having claimed Turkey has been “under a major pressure” Ünal defended daily Sözcü has been insulting.
“If you defend something against these, it is alleged ‘press is being intervened’, declared to the world, as well. We have not been at an adequate atmosphere. But after the elections, those will all be accounted”
Koza Ipek media group
Police used water cannon and tear gas early Oct. 28 to enter Koza Ipek Holding’s media group headquarters in Istanbul to implement a court order to seize control of the holding.
European Union Delegation to Turkey urged the raid and measures taken against Koza Ipek Holding’s headquarters in Istanbul raised particular concern, as the intervention has occured in run up to crucial elections.
“The measures taken against Ipek Holding are of particular concern as they both narrow the informational space in Turkey and intervene only a few days ahead of crucial elections. The EU Delegation will closely examine, both until and after the elections, whether due procedure is followed” said the statement, released via the EU Delegation Turkey Twitter account.
