Öykü Altuntaş / Antalya, Nov 15 () - President Barack Obama pledged to increase US efforts to eliminate the Islamic State (IS) and end the Syrian civil war that has fueled its rise, denouncing the extremist group's horrifying terror spree in Paris as "an attack on the civilized world."

The discussions included efforts to coordinate and help to fortify borders through a sure peaceful political transition in Syria as well as diplomatic talks in Vienna, Obama said after meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, adding that Turkey has become an strong coalition partner in the fight against the fight against IS (Islamic State).

"As we I'm sure each said to (French) President Hollande and the French people, we stand in solidarity with them in hunting down the perpetrators of this crime and bringing them to justice" Obama said. "As was true with the terrible attacks that took place in Ankara, the killing of innocent people based on a twisted ideology is an attack not just on France, not just on Turkey, but it's an attack on the civilised world" he added, referring also to twin suicide bombings in the Turkish capital last month.

Erdoğan said he has discussed cooperation against the IS with US President Barack Obama and assessed steps to be taken within the anti-IS coalition at a bilateral meeting just ahead of G-20 summit. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Erdoğan said a joint stance against international terrorism will be on the agenda of the G-20 summit.
