İhsan Dörtkardeş / Istanbul, July 19 () - Massoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced, “We have two options on the table: Either independency or dependency. We will choose the first one” while visiting the Peshmerga Forces operating in Erbil and Mosul.
A dual administration had been proposed by the opposition Goran (Change) movement in Northern Iraq, an administration ruled through Sulaymaniyah city where Patriotic Union of Kurdistan under the leadership of Jalal Talabani is strong and Erbil where Barzani-led Iraq Kurdistan Democratic Party mostly exerts authority.
Barzani hinted at this proposition and said, “The ones who speak of two wills are the ones who have not gained their lesson from the history” in a statement published on the ‘Kurdistan Regional Government’ official website, Iraqi Kurdish Rudaw TV reported.
“No one can divide, rive the Kurdistan Region. The ones who are disturbed by the unity and integrity can maintain their lives in another place that they prefer. We did not martyr those lives to remain under orders” urged Barzani.
“The enemy did its worse but could not wear out the will of our nation. We do not have to experiance this sort of an affliction over again. Among the two options in front of us- independance or dependence- we will chose independency.”
Barzani also pointed out that Peshmerga forces are responsible for protecting the homeland, addressing the Peshmerga forces as the “commander in chief” and urged that conflicts among the parties should not be reflected to the war, in his statement.
