Gülhan Demirci / Mersin, Aug 24 () - In southeastern province of Mersin attracting Syrian migrants and agriculture workers who flock to the region from eastern and southeastern Anatolia for seasonal works, some of the families have installed illegal electricity wires by hooking the main electricity lines.
At tent areas in Akarsu neighborhood, some 50 families supply their electricity need through these illegal electricity lines, while this method not only forces the citizens, public institutions to overpay for electricity, it also endangers lives of workers and Syrian migrants having fled the civil war in their country.
Lots of children play games around the illegal electricity wire that has no precaution measures. Also, due to the illegal electricity wires, fire breaks out from time to time in the nylon tents.
Workers living in those tents told that they had to use this illegal method, despite the danger it creates, because they have to work for 30 and 40 liras per day.
Residents in the neighborhood, on the other hand, have made a complaint to electricity disposal company officials.
