Ferit Aslan / Diyarbakır, Oct 23 () - Family of Australian Reece Harding, killed while fighting against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant with People’s Protection Movement (YPG) in Syria, visited the Rojava region where he has died.
Reece Harding, 23, has died in June, after stepping on a landmine while fighting with the YPG. Harding has joined the YPG in June 2014, and was killed on Jun 27, 2015. His corpse was brought to Australia through Turkey.
The family has recently arrived to Kamışlı region, in order to see where their son has died. His parents visited seniors of the YPG in Rojava, where the leaders gave the family Reece Harding’s picture.
Michele Harding, mother of the killed YPG member said they were happy to visit Rojava, having added, “I would like the world to know these precious children of ours better, the children that the international media has not showed”.
“We all fight for humanity, although we have different religious thoughts” she said.
Having urged mothers losing their children suffer the same pain, mother Harding told they were proud to be known as the “Australian Kurds”.
“I would never want to lose by child. However, it strangely relieves me to know my son has died while helping other people, rather than a meaningless accident. I pray for our children to be safe” said Michele Harding.
