Izmir, Aug 27 () Leading country in marine and port projects in the world, Netherlands, will be a model to Turkey’s ports within environment-friendly Green Port implementation.

Istanbul, Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea Regions (IMEAK) Chamber of Shipping branch in Aegean province of İzmir has hosted the representatives of Dutch consultancy companies with a seminar where Port of Amsterdam and the Dutch officials announced they are ready for a cooperation with Turkey.

Along with Director of Port of Amsterdam Jan Egbertsen, Partner of STC-Nestra B.V. Rene Meeuws and Sandra Van Putten, and Arnaud Burgess from “Panteia Research to Progress” participated to the event along with seniors of leading marine faculties, organizations, companies from Turkey and Netherlands.

Having made the opening speech of the seminar, IMEAK İzmir branch board chairman Yusuf Öztürk announced the works for Green Port Project have been resumed, while 17 ports including Egeports in Kuşadası have applied to receive certificate of Green Port. Öztürk added that Marport owned by Arkas Holding has been the first to receive the certificate in Turkey.

Öztürk highlighted that Amsterdam and Rotterdam ports were also located in the city just like the Alsancak Port in İzmir province, however a potential closure of these ports have never been brought to Netherland’s agenda, on the contrary, these ports have been growing every year with support of new investments.

Dutch Green Port Consultancy Company STC-Nestra B.V. Partner Rene Meeuws, on the other hand, added that even if the green port concept was costly, it has survived after the interest of public which attracteed new investments.

Port of Amsterdam official Jan Egbertsen, stated that the Rotterdam ve Amsterdam Ports have similar traits with İzmir Alsancak Port, due to their use as both passanger and cargo ships, and called on officials to be open to new sharings.

“Dutch investors could attract marine investments to Aegean” declared Egbertsen.

GreenPort is a company providing business information on environmental practices and corporate responsibilities within marine ports and terminal projects, including shipping, transport and logistics.
